Man Utd Hit With Devastating Defensive Injuries

Up Where We Belong

Man Utd starting left back and absolute stud Luke Shaw went out with an injury in the first half of today’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.

Shaw was able to walk off and it is somewhat unclear exactly what could be the injury. Shaw played the Euros with broken ribs, so it must be somewhat serious to force a tough and physical player.

More Problems For Man Utd

Harry Maguire also took a knock. It looked like Maguire would carry on but he would be replaced by Victor Lindelof, but the captain carried on after taking a hard challenge around the back part of his ankle, achilles and calf area.

It is a tense area to take a challenge especially with achilles tendon being in that area. Achilles injuries can keep players out for months, so it always good to have a trainer give it a feel just incase.

Maguire got caught in a couple of weird positions after the knock, it seemed like he did not want to accelerate and got back in positions late. He also got away with a foul against John McGinn after getting turned on and beaten for pace.

Shaw was in the best form of his career and it is disappointing for his individual progression, especially with contract talks open with Man Utd, but this is also really concerning for the first team.

Diogo Dalot replaced Shaw after the injury and had a fantastic loan at Milan last season and a good preseason, but he is better on the right. Dalot had a really good opportunity to put in a decent cross with a lot of numbers in the box, but he over hit his cross.

Alex Telles did not even make the bench for the game after not having the best returns from an injury during the week against West Ham in the League Cup exit.

More Squad Notes

Aaron Wan-Bissaka looked slow to get up after an Aston Villa corner. It did not look like anything that serious but when monitoring him, his body language looked a little off. He got beat by Tyrone Mings at near post on a corner, he did not give up a goal, but it looked like AWB did not get any height on his attempted clearance.

The ball would go out for another corner and Man Utd gave up the goal on that corner. The ball was at a good height for him too clear. Probably nothing serious, but something to keep an eye on.

Man Utd did get somewhat of an injury boost with Edinson Cavani. The return of Cavani is a good boost for Man Utd’s attacking options. Being able to put in a striker like Cavani late in games when you need a heading option is always important. Fernando Llorente vibes.
