Could Man Utd be Capable of Another Crazy 6-2 Victory Against Leeds?

Man Utd face Leeds on Sunday, a whole week after they defeated a stubborn Burley side 3-1. Man Utd crushed Leeds earlier in the season 6-2 and the scoreline for this game could be just as flattering for the Red Devils.

Leeds are not a bad team, at times their style of play that could leave them open and Man Utd are in decent goal scoring form lately. Man Utd have scored eight goals in their last three Premier League matches.

Leeds are having a successful season back in the Premier League. They currently sit 10th in the table and could rise to 9th if they were to get a result or a better result than Arsenal, they are level on points with 46, Arsenal has an eight goal advantage on Leeds.

Leeds have not been defeated in the last five games, they defeated two relegation zone teams, draws against Chelsea and Liverpool and a huge victory against Manchester City.

The win against City is an example of Leeds not relying so heavily on an ambitious regardless of who the competition is attack, they sat back and caught City on the counter. A red card for Liam Cooper exacerbated the counter-attacking style.

Even before he got sent off Leeds were not attacking as much as they normally do. The only two shots of the game for Leeds were goals for Stuart Dallas, the utility man is second in scoring this season for Leeds with 7 goals.

Patrick Bamford has returned to the Premier League well this season, his 14 goals leads the squad this season, Bamford also has 7 assists. A solid season for someone who has been criticized in the past and was considered a Premier League flop.

Leeds have scored and given up the same amount goals this season, 50 and they are 10th, kind of weird. Luke Ayling, Jack Harrison, Kalvin Phillips, Illan Meslier and Raphinha have all been solid for Leeds this season as well.

Raphinha is an injury doubt for Sunday and Leeds will definitely be without Rodrigo for this game for sure.

Man Utd Team News and Press Conference

Marcus Rashford has not featured in training this week but could feature against Leeds according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Eric Bailly has returned to training after being out with COVID-19 from international duty, he might be on the bench, it is unclear what his fitness levels are like at the moment.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke glowing about Leeds and their form and how it will be a tough game for Man Utd. Solskjaer compared this Leeds side to the ones that he played against while playing for Man Utd.

“I have played in some massive games against Leeds, I feel the same now with the Leeds team coming up this year, they are going challenge us. We have to be ready for this game physically and mentally,” said Solskjaer.

Man Utd is getting fit at the right time and are in great form in the league. Man Utd have not lost in the last 12 Premier League matches, if they catch Leeds early like they did last time out, the Red Devils will no have problems scoring goals or creating opportunities against Leeds.

Leeds have shown they can be stubborn and play better defense lately which could negate a Man Utd side that are willing to attack more lately.

Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are meshing well in the middle and if Rashford doesn’t play, Mason Greenwood and Edison Cavani are in good form to lead the attack.

This match can be looked at as a potential match-of-the-week candidate and hopefully it lives up to the hype. Could Man Utd go out there and destroy Leeds like last time? Absolutely.

Preview: Manchester United v Brighton – Premeier League Matchday 30

Manchester United welcome Brighton in the Premeier League today at 730 p.m. GST. Manchester United took care of Brighton in the first league fixture, a Bruno Fernandes in stoppage time won it for United.

Manchester United could put some distance on their league rivals, Chelsea and Leicester City both lost on Saturday, a win would see them go 4 points clear of Leicester and 9 clear of Chelsea.

Brighton have won their last two league games, putting some distance between them and the drop. They are currently 6 points ahead of Fulham.

In their last outing they easily took care of fellow relegation battlers, Newcastle. Former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck was on the scoresheet for Brighton.

Brighton have had a disappointing season despite having some decent players: Yves Bissouma, Ben White, Adam Lallana, Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Pascal Gross, Leandro Trossard and Tariq Lamptey. The ladder is out for the rest of the season are all good players. Brighton can defend and like to get on the ball and keep it.

Team News

Manchester United could be without Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof and Mason Greenwood, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer they have been slightly injured. Rashford and Greenwood did practice the morning of the press conference and could be fit.

Ole spoke with MUTV about the injuries that were picked up during the break. When he spoke about Greenwood and Rashford:

“They need to get through the session on Saturday. They both joined in on Friday morning and hopefully they don’t get any reaction. If they complete the session on Saturday, they’ll be available for selection.”

He also commented on the health of Martial and Lindelof: “Neither of them trained on Friday morning. We’re still waiting for final confirmation on how they are.”

Paul Pogba could be fit and ready to go after receiving healthy amounts of minutes in the international without an obvious reaction.

It will also be interesting who Solskjaer chooses in the net. Before David de Gea became a father he was the first choice goalkeeper in the league. Dean Henderson replaced him in the lineup before the break.

Man United 3 Newcastle 1

Slow start to the match from Manchester United, the first notable incident of the match was ten minutes in when David De Dea played the ball straight to the Newcastle attack when trying to play out of the United defence, fortunately although this ended up in a shot on the United goal, it went straight over the bar. At the half hour mark in the match with both sides looking evenly matched, Marcus Rashford showed a moment of individual brilliance by beating his man on the wing and driving a powerful low driven shot into the bottom corner to put United on the scoresheet. Shortly after we saw Harry Maguire clear the ball after a Newcastle cross, only to find Allan Saint-Maximin who hit the ball on a half volley and found the back of the Manchester United net. The end of the first half saw both teams leave the pitch drawing 1 all.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw Newcastle dominating the play and pressing high up the pitch. Against the run of play we saw a pass by Matic run across the Newcastle box and onto Daniel James on the right who drove the ball into the Newcastle net to make it his second goal in two games. The first substitution of the game saw Anthony Martial replaced by Mason Greenwood with twenty minutes to go. With fifteen minutes to go Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock fowled Marcus Rashford inside the box to give Man United a penalty. Bruno Fernandes stood up to covert and add another goal to his tally for the season. With two minutes remaining in normal time we saw the second and third substitution of the match, Juan Mata came on to replace Daniel James and we saw Shola Shoretire make his debut for Manchester United when he replaced Marcus Rashford. Shortly after the match finished Man United 3, Newcastle 1.

A good performance by Newcastle tonight and we were lucky to take the three points. I would give my man of the match to Marcus Rashford but notably Daniel James also has a good game tonight.
